In that UBF group in FB,  we have so many cooking experts . And they keep posting awesome recipes.

This is one such awesome recipe given by Manjula Natrajan mam ! This recipe is a keeper !

If you do vazhathandu kootu this way, trust me you will never make that kootu any other way !

RECIPE COURTESY : Mrs.Manjula Natarajan

Take 1 vazhaithandu measuring approx 250 grams. Chop it finely and put it in buttermilk until you cook it, in order to prevent it from darkening.

Soak 1/4 cup moong dal in hot water for 1/2 an hour .

In a 2 litre pressure cooker, put the soaked dal below and add 3/4th cup water.  Take another vessel which can fit into that cooker and keep it inside the cooker above the dal.

Inside the inner vessel, add the chopped banana stem taken out from buttermilk, 2 red chillies , 2 green chillies, 1 small piece hing or 1/4 tsp hing , 1 tsp salt,1/4 tsp haldi, 2 tbsp grated coconut .

After arranging it like that, close the lid with weight and cook in medium flame for 3 whistles. I cooked at 700 watts.

Let the pressure settle and open. Mash the dhal and mix the ingredients in the inner vessel.

Finally add the tadka . ( 1 tsp coconut oil, 1 tsp urad dal, 1/2 tsp mustard and few curry leaves)

Enjoy it with yummy rasam and rice.
